ZERO TO THREE Policy Center state updates

In December 2012, Illinois Governor Pat Quinn announced grants to 14 early childhood education centers and providers to assist in renovating or expanding their facilities. The Early Childhood Construction Grant (ECCG) program was established by the Illinois General Assembly in 2010 to increase early childhood services in underserved areas.

The awards will help the 14 facilities provide safe and age-appropriate environments. The funding may be used to acquire or construct a new facility, renovate an existing facility, purchase equipment, and/or make safety improvements. These improvements enable the early childhood programs to expand their reach within the communities in which they are located.

The ECCG program is part of the Illinois Jobs! Now construction project administered by the Capital Development Board in consultation with the Illinois State Board of Education. A total of $45 million was awarded in December 2012. A local 10% match is required.
